What is TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure)?

TDEE, or Total Daily Energy Expenditure, is the total number of calories your body burns in a single day, including all activities. It's calculated by multiplying BMR by an activity factor ranging from 1.2 (sedentary) to 1.9 (extra active). TDEE is the most important number for weight management: eating at TDEE maintains weight, below TDEE causes weight loss, and above TDEE causes weight gain.
