What is BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate)?

BMR, or Basal Metabolic Rate, is the number of calories your body burns at complete rest to sustain basic physiological functions — breathing, circulating blood, regulating body temperature, and keeping cells running. It represents 60–75% of total daily calorie expenditure for most adults. BMR is calculated using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation (most accurate) or Harris-Benedict equation, taking into account weight, height, age, and sex.
